The National Association of Motor Auctions (NAMA) grading scheme continues to support used car sales and was hugely successful in steering the market through the pandemic.

NAMA is running its next set of specialist training courses for vehicle appraisers from today (7 October 2021) at the RMI Academy of Automotive Skills in Southam. The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) accredited one day course is designed to standardise vehicle appraisal throughout the motor industry.

Candidates will learn how to qualify faults and their severity levels through the grading scheme and justify these decisions utilising the NAMA standards for appraisals, whilst working within a safe environment. It combines a mixture of classroom teaching and practical’s and is completed by an assessment exam which includes a practical test.

NAMA’s grading scheme consists of 5 grades and is designed to facilitate the vehicle auction buying and selling process by giving both parties a better understanding of the vehicle condition. The grades are determined on a points system allocated by type and severity of damage which are assessed by specially trained inspectors at each auction. There is also an unclassified grade for vehicles that are badly accident damaged or require high levels of repair.

Successful attendees will be rewarded with the ‘NAMA Accredited Appraiser’ qualification, and a regular audit process will ensure that the highest standards of vehicle appraisal are maintained throughout the industry.

The training ensures vehicles are consistently appraised giving more certainty about a vehicles condition. This means transactions between buyers and sellers can be conducted more efficiently and will reduce condition ambiguities and possible disagreements.
